1,152 words; about a 6 minute read

Mission: Sole Survivor
Location: Planet's Surface
Timeline: MD 18 - 1515

"I was worried you'd say that..." Ayumu sighed. "So now we have a possibility that she might be contaminated with the exact same pathogen that ravaged Mister Aseek's people; and since there's still so little we know about it, we might not be able to detect if she even has it."

"I thought that's what the EV suits were for to protect us from any pathogens" Liam inquired.

"Not if they're punctured like this," Ayumu lamented.

"Hand me that tricorder, Lieutenant," Ayumu instructed, offering Liam his outstretched hand. "If I'm going to treat this, I'm gonna need a better look at her injuries."

Grabbing the device he handed it to the Doctor "Here, hope this can detect what your looking for" Liam commented.

Liam and Urushi watched with baited breath as Ayumu slowly and methodically ran the tricorder over the wound area.

"Scans are coming back negative for unidentified pathogens, but that might not be saying a lot," Ayumu reported. "And even then, she's already lost about 25% of her total blood volume, which would correlate with increased heart and respiratory rates, decreased blood pressure, and blood vessels constricting in the limbs and extremities.

"That isn't as bad as it could be I suppose" then Liam paused "So what about the symbiont Urushi's carrying; is he alright" he inquired.

"it's been grazed by the beam, but it's otherwise in tact," Ayumu replied. "However, it looks to have gone into shock from the impact; the tendrils have retracted from the spinal cord, meaning it's not fully connected to the host anymore; once we get back to the Valkyrie, we're going to need to operate and reconnect those tendrils before any significant neurological damage is caused."

"That certainly doesn't sound good so I guess we should get her ready for transport asap" Liam suggested.

"Lieuetnant, hand me some bandages," Ayumu instructed. "It's too risky for us to remove the board, so until we can get her to an operating room, we're going to need to do the best we can to stabilize the blood loss in the meantime."

Looking through the Doctor's bag he spotted a 'wide roller bandage' and grabbed it "Here will this work" he asked knowing he was well out of his wheelhouse at this point.

"That will do perfectly, Lieutenant," Ayumu nodded before turning to Urushi. "Alright, sit tight for just a sec, Lieutenant; try not to make any sudden movements until we can get you back to the Valkyrie, alright?"

"Uh... huh..." Urushi managed to mumble.

Back on the other side Aseek and Wallace had already moved towards the stairwell, Sizia had returned to Lt. Thomas who was still by the rubble. "We gotta go."

Looking up at Sizia "Right behind you" Stevie replied more than ready to get out of this hell hole.

Wallace had stopped a few steps up, turning. "Let's move!"

Urushi sat there her breathing becoming heavier, quicker and more panicked. Beads of cold sweat ran down her face and arms as she tried to focus on anything but the blood. "Focus Urushi... Focus..." she muttered. "Oh crap oh crap oh crap."

"Lieutenant?!" she could just barely hear Ayumu calling out to her, although his voice was distant and hollow. "Come on, stick with me, Lieutenant! Focus on the sound of my-!

She could feel her vision going blurry and slowly her hearing was muffling. Her haemophobia now in full swing. She began to sway from side to side slightly as the colour drained from her face. She stared off into the distance, eyes starting to glaze over as overstimulation grasped her tightly. Her body temperature started to rise, breaking out in more cold sweats.

She stopped swaying, slowly starting to lean over to her left. "Ships... sinking... down... she... goes!" She exclaimed slowly. Then she slumped over onto her left side and it all went dark as her haemophobia and loss of blood finally took its toll on her petite body.

"Dammit! I'm losing her!" Ayumu cursed.

He turned to Liam. "I'm making the call; were getting out of here!"

Urushi began to burn up, her body temperature rising as her immune system and the symbiot inside her raged a war against her blood loss and injuries. Her skin was clammy and warm to the touch slowly starting to flush as her breathing quickened even in her unconscious state.

Urushi wasn't looking too good. Looking to the Doctor "That's all well and good but how do you propose we do that. Our exit is blocked and is unstable....I've attempted to raise the Valkyrie but we must be too far underground. Our only option is to proceed forward and pray to the gods we get to the point we can contact the ship" Liam stated with certainty "Hopefully we don't loose her in the meantime."

"Because of course we can't do things the easy way," Ayumu sighed. "Alright; see if you can find something that we can fashion into a stretcher; we're going to try carrying her to the extraction point."

Without a word O'Riley stood flashing his light around the space when he found two long metal pipes. Grabbing both he now was searching for something, anything to fashion into a platform. Moving a little further in he spotted four shorter pieces of pipe. Gathering those he went back to the Doctor "We can use these to make into a carrying device, it won't be the most comfortable thing but it should work" he stated before laying all the pieces on the ground a safe distance away. Grabbing his phaser Liam reset the parameters and began fusing the pieces together; shortly he was finished "All set Doctor.

"Right, then," Ayumu nodded as he moved behind Urushi and proceeded to wrap his arms under her shoulders. "Help me lift her, Lieutenant; you take the legs."

Reaching down "Ok got her" O'Riley replied "On three....one...two...three...lift" as the two officers lifted Urushi and started going in the only direction that was open to them.

Lambert was in shock, he barely had the mentality to follow after those carrying the stretcher. His phaser battery had been drained by firing at that thing which killed Hudson and Gonzalez.

Reaching the lab level Wallace tried his comms. "Wallace to Valkyrie."

Stopping and looking back at Wallace the rest of the team watched as something hit him from behind.

[USS Valkyrie]

Daegan smiled, "Glad to hear from ya. What the situa..."

The bridge was filled with the sounds of a crash and guttural cries and roars followed by sounds of snapping and ripping flesh and fabric.

[Away team]

Looking to the others Siziz shouted. "GO!!" Firing her phaser she fired dismembering what had been Lt. Wallace.

[USS Valkyrie]

Baas was out of his seat. "AWAY TEAM REPORT!"
