Rules
The Valkyrie can be a global community with a shared interest and ALL players are expected to follow proper channels and protocols.
The rules are pretty basic and pretty much common sense. However you are expected to read and abide by the Rules available in our database either before or shortly after joining that way everyone knows what to expect and what is required.
GENERAL RULES
• You must not publicly admonish or reprimand any other player out of character (Any OOC problems should be addressed to the Command team).
• Respect goes along way onboard the Valkyrie, not just for the Chain of Command but for every player. Remember the Golden Rule; treat others the way you want to be treated - with respect. (The only exception to this is if any character on character disrespect is required for the plot, and would be pre-arranged OOCly).
• Nobody under the age of 18 will be allowed to join the Valkyrie - as some posts may contain strong language, sexual subject matter or vivid descriptions of a sexual or violent nature. (If you are over 18 and this might offend you, please inform the Command Team).
• Be flexible when you're SIMMing, as anything can happen, and have fun.
• Be creative and realistic as creativity is key, creative posts give life to your character.
• Attention to detail. Keep up with what others write in their posts - as it might directing affect your character or be critical to the setting!
• For every action there is a reaction. Your character's actions can and will have consequences.
• Stay involved - your player might not always be the center of attention but that doesn't mean your character can't do anything. There is ALWAYS something to do. If you find yourself struggling with what to do; check the writing suggestion areas in the wiki or contact the Command Team as we have been doing this a while and can help with most anything.
• Communicate - talk out of character (OOC) with other crew members. Our Discord server has verious channels for conversation or other postings. Plus it helps build comradery and cohesion with the various players can add to the creativity of the Valkyrie.
• If there is a disagreement between two crewmembers, the CO/XO will act as mediator and will have the final say in the matter. If a crew member has an issue or needs clarification, politely PM the Commanding Officer/Command Team and we will look into the situation.
• The CO can do what he/she deems in the best interest of the sim – meaning the CO (and only the CO) can write for an unresponsive player or even change the mission's direction at any time. It is the COs sole right to start or end a mission. No player should try to interfere substantially with the plot of a mission. Please speak to the CO if you have an idea that could substantially change the plot. Ideas are welcome at anytime so it something pops into your mind...bring to the CO and it is very likely it could be worked in.
• Rules and guidelines are susceptible to change if it is in the best interest of the simulation. The command team will announce any change as they are made.
• Character Creation:
- All new (non-DH) Starfleet characters will start with the rank of Ensign or Ltjg for medical officers - Unless previously approved by the CO – something to remember when creating your bio. The reason for this is simple – It encourages activity, posting, crew interaction, and character development in order to EARN promotions and even awards.
- Must be original and have a full biography created by their players; it is also preferred that your character have an avatar (contact the CO for assistance if needed.
- Must not copy or be directly related to canon Star Trek characters.
- No “Mary Sue” or other “Super” characters. .
• Developing your character:
- Make sure you use traits about your character in your posts. Don't write a BIO and then play your character completely different. It is for the Command Team to determine the final acceptability of any character information.
- Interaction is key to character involvement. Don't just participate in mission posts and leave it at that. The posts written about the on and off duty interactions between the crew is one of the things that makes things interesting.
• Writing on the Valkyrie...DOING IT YOURSELF
- By all means, let the computer fix your mistakes, but don’t let it write for you.
While tools like Word’s spellcheck, Grammarly or Copilot style assistants are fine to use to proof or correct your writing, if you’re contributing something to the story it needs to be something that’s your ideas and thoughts, even if you tidy them up digitally.
If you’re using AI for more than basic structural/grammatical assistance, that’s too much AI. It’s a writing game for humans, if we wanted to write a story with ChatGPT we could all do that, but that’s not what this game is.
