Mission:
What was Lost is Found
Timeline: Prior to Charting a course
Once a precautionary decontamination had been complete the Pricari data disk where scanned, the data uploaded, translated, and then the real work began. Both the Xenobiology and Stellar sections had been pouring over the data recovered from the away teams, the Pricari crystals, and the scans of the 'specimen' they had been able to study.
The pair of crystal disks the Pricari people had prepared quite a bit of information on it's possible origins, even with their level if technology. The Stellar team has been able to review the information, confirm the Pricari findings, then take that information and fine tune the analysis and narrow down the area of space believed to be the source of the asteroid that had contaminated their world.
The biological analysis would be more involve. While that analysis continued V'Laros was on his way to the bridge to updated the Captain.
[Bridge]
Stepping out of the lift he headed to the Captain as he stood near the Security console observing the woman manning the station.
"...not necessarily. If you, potentially, have multiple targets in the area you can index them and then if things go bad you can toggle from one to another and establish a weapons lock faster than trying to pan from one target to the next."
"Thank you sir."
"Excuse me Captain may I have a word."
Turning he saw the Vulcan running the Science department while Yaotome was in sickbay. "Ahhh Mr. V'Laros, certainly, what do you have for me?"
"If I could, in private Captain?"
Daegan's head turned slightly then gestured towards the ready room. "By all means."
[Ready Room]
Having entered first V'Laros he stopped at the back of the chair before him waiting for the Captain to pass and go around his desk but that didn't happen. Glancing to his right the Captain was taking a seat on the couch.
"What is it Lieutenant?"
Turning he placed his hands behind his back. "Captain the review of the Pricari information has located an area of space where they believed the asteroid, that spawned what they call the Defiled, came from. Unfortunately without knowing the actual point of origin their could be a very wide cone of contamination. The biological analysis continues."
"I know I had ordered a preliminary report by this hardly required a private setting."
"Agreed sir, there was another matter I wished to discuss."
"Go on."
"I have been assisting Petty Officer Sh'velihr with her studies, and observing her while on duty in the xenobiology lab. Her recent actions have been...out of character."
Daegan too had notice a slight difference in he but not anything to warrant suspicion. "I see. Has she done anything that would indicate she is a threat to the ship or crew?"
"No sir, not that I have observed."
"So what is the issue?"
"Sir. Miss. Sh'velih exhibited a calm and efficiency that allowed her to suggest a way for us to get detailed scans of a victim of this contagion even though that person had been a fellow member of the crew and team member. To use a human phrase, she did what had to be done."
"Very true. She would be one to, under normal circumstances, joke, tease, or make light of a situation. But in this instance she rose to to the challenge of the moment."
"I would agree sir. Because of this I would recommend her for promotion or at the least a commendation."
Smirking Daegan nodded. "Hmmm. I will look into it. Send me your recommendation to Commander Hunt directly so that we can keep Sazia in the dark."
"Understood Captain. With your permission I will return to the lab and help complete the analysis."
"Dismissed." Daegan watch the officer leave and slapped the back of the couch before rising and returning to the Bridge.
Moving to his desk he pulled up Sizia's record he read through it and contemplated the V'Laros's words.
[Xenobiology Lab]
Everyone was still working overtime on the analysis. They all felt their bosses life might hang in the balance but every moment that went by without an alert they figured the ship was safe from and contamination...even if she was still wounded.
Unfortunately the answers they were getting was not what they hoped for. As the hours went by shifts changed and people returned after a quick bite to eat of a short nap. Everyone was wanting to do their part and Sizia returned about a hour after she had left to keep working.
Things had been a little difficult for the Science Department since their Chief was 'out of the picture'. However they did continue on. One of those was Ensign McNeil, a young man from the southern coasts of England. This was his first posting and he was more of a chemistry science officer than a biological one.
Letting out a yawn as Sizia came over to the opposite side of the lab station, "Oh excuse me. Anything new?"
"Nothing yet." McNeil replied. "I've got the science computer working on a full analysis, but it's taking time to cross reference."
"Has anyone started looking over the Pricari data on the impact site?"
McNeil shook his head. "Not yet, we've not had a lot of time or people to spare with Chief Yaotome still being in sickbay."
Sizia nodded. "Well while the computer works on the sensor and Pricari bio data I will get started their. Maybe we can figure out were these things came from."
McNeil nodded. "That's be helpful. Biology isn't my strongest science, but I can definitely say that I've never seen anything remotely like this out of old Earth movies and horror holodeck programs."
Taking a seat she pulled up the data on the impact site that the Pricari had been studying before the Defiled wiped them out. "I don't think anyone has encountered anything like this. But if you think about it this put us up there with Archer, Kirk, Janeway and the other ships that went out into the unknown and made all those discoveries...new phenomena, new species... It's kind of exciting in a way."
"Thats what we're out here to find out." McNeil responded. The computer beeped indicating that the analysis was complete. "Good timing huh... let's take a look."
Crossing towards the computer terminal he pulled up the results on the screen. "No life signs that the computer can detect. But the DNA is very dense almost like several DNA strands were 'mashed' together. And a point one of exposure to some form of radiation.. " he scratched his head as he turned to Sizia. "I'm not going to lie, this is a head scratcher..."
Looking at the display, her eyes widening, making a mental note to take a closer look at that DNA. "I've never seen anything that densely coded."
Bringing up her data she displayed the information the Pricari had put together from their analysis of the impact site. "The Pricari data is surprisingly accurate give the level of technology but if we ran this information through Astrometrics they could no doubt narrow the the path it took."
The full analysis on the data they had was going to take some time to complete but they had enough for the preliminary report that the Captain had wanted. While the rest of the science team continued their work, V'Laros organized the information at hand and taking his padd headed to the meeting of the senior staff.
