Mission: What was Lost is Found
Location: Planet Kril'es
Timeline: MD 6 - 1200

Previously...

Daegan took advantage of his pause to interject. “What finally brought you all together?”

“Another crash.”

Kurul's expression drooped as he recalled the events from all those years ago. “There had been an indigenous population on this area planet, and both sides had tried to enlist their aid in fighting the other but due to our conflict they fled and consolidated themselves for there own defenses. They withdrew through a mountain pass to the west, and even fortified the pass with a series of walls. Needless to say they wanted nothing to do with either side.

“The crash I mentioned occurred about 20 years after we got here. Both the Federation settlement and ours went to investigate as we both had limited sensors from the shuttlecraft. Fortunately the weapons on the shuttles had been damage or the only thing you would have found here would be mindless abominations...”

Daegan's head darted to his crew before returning to look at the Administrator.

Kurul, seeing the Captain's reaction paused. “You've seen these things before?”

Nodding, “Possibly.” Looking to Urushi, “Lieutenant, Can you pull up an image of what we encountered on Pricari and show the Administrator?”

"Aye sir," Urushi said. She flicked open her tricorder and tapped away at its controls. A small holographic projection appeared above it in the air. It showed the defiled, and some of her scan data. "These are what the Pricari call 'the defiled'," Urushi explained.

The younger councilors that had only her the stories of what had happened gasped in shock at seeing what they had only been able to imagine.

Daegan looked to Urushi. "Thank you Lieutenant."

Returning his to the Kurul, "Administrator, that you are all here it's obvious that you and the others were able to eliminate the Defiled, and the devastation to the east of mountains is pretty clear how it was done. And while I would like, and I'm certain other would be interested in those details...the history lesson can wait.

"The Federation Council and the Romulan Senate needs to know you are out here. You all have accomplished what neither has been able to achieve. While relations between the Federation and the Romulan Empire are better than they have ever been, they still fall short of what you have achieved. And I'm sure the families of those that were aboard both ships would like to know that some are alive", gesturing to the administrator, "or the fate of their loved ones.

"I would like to invite you all to up to the Valkyrie to invite you all aboard. We can give you a tour, a lot has changed in over a century."

Dareem said nothing as the others spoke. He stood half a step behind Kurul, his posture erect, hands clasped behind his back in the manner of a disciplined Romulan accustomed to waiting on those more important than he. His dark-coloured tunic was faded around the cuffs and collar from age, while his beige pants were neatly pressed. His hair was black with threads of iron-grey, pulled straight back--the same way his father wore it.

His eyes were sharp and strangely patient, they moved languidly between the newcomers. He watched the Trill captain's gestures, his subtle cues of hierarchy among the Valkyrie's officers. When Kurul spoke of peace and unity, Dareem's expression did not change, though there was a small tension which gathered at the corner of his mouth. Skepticism, perhaps. But held back by years of discipline.

To the colonists who knew him, Dareem's silence was entirely unremarkable; he was always known as a man of few words and a near-constant severe expression, raised by a father who had demanded loyalty, honour, and strength, from his son. To those who may have noticed him today, he appeared the same as always--aloof, attentive, and silent.

Kurul stood, "Thank you Captain but this is our home now. We don't want to leave."

"No one is saying you have to leave, nor would I even suggest that. Your settlement is a shining example to both the
Federation and the Empire. Both governments will probably want to offer assistance, others may want to come here. Of course this is now your world, your system. How we proceed is totally up to you and the other Councilors."

"Thank you for that clarification. We will accept your invitation and see what our options are."

"Excellent." Looking back over to his officers, "Lieutenant Korveth...Rogers, you both can return to the ship with Commander Hunt, myself, and their delegation. Everyone else...see what we can do as far as immediate needs and provide for them. Also test out the use of the transport enhancers to expedite things."

Hunt nodded in response. In all honesty, he didn't blame these folks for not wanting to return. The Romulans here would never truly be accepted back home due to what has been accomplished here.

For what it was worth Niami was intrigued by how things had gone with those who had decided to band and bond together. She was though rather worried about the weapon that was described and the image thereof. Goosebumps had risen on her arms, and she gave a shudder.

Once they confirmed interactions with the defiled, Rogers had contacted his teams again, updating them on the possibility of the defiled on the planet and ordering a switch over to the projectile weapons in hopes they would prove more effective than the previous mission's phasers were. He kept on ear open on the exchange between the captain and councilor and tried to keep his eye on all the inhabitants. There was something off that he didn't quite trust - yet - but that was only instinct and he had nothing to actually show as proof.

But then, a major job description was to be suspicious, so he was well within his purview. "Aye Captain," he acknowledged the order to return. Not that he needed it. As the security chief, the Captain was his primary responsibility, always, then the ship and crew. He would have gone where the captain went regardless of the orders. He looked around as if he expected mutated virus laden dead bodies to come bursting out from all around them. But his thoughts were interrupted as a small but firm hand gripped his arm, coming with it a flood of thoughts and emotions. He scowled as he looked over, and down.

A lined, elderly face was looking back at him, with a slightly whimsical smile and dark yes, not unlike his own. Iron gray hair turning the white of age was pulled back from her face and into a long braid. She wore loose fitting gowns that appeared a mix of old fabric and new, homespun and several layers of beaded necklaces of various sizes. One had a shimmer to it. "You look to be the proper gentlemen to escort an old lady," she said. Her voice was soft but had iron to it, which matched her gaze. "Is it far to your craft? I have to admit I'm giddy for the first time in a long time. My father often spoke of the wonderful technology of the Federation and I'm eager to see all that he described as bedtime tales."

Rogers's scowl melted into a look of confusion and concentration as he reinforced his shields to stop her thoughts from invading his own. "I'm not one of the diplomats," he said, recognizing her as Councilor Yuvana from Kurul's earlier introduction. "I'm security. I'm sure there would be-"

"No one better," she said, her whimsical smile widening. "I'd rather someone speak plainly with the bluntness of a bull in a kiln. I'm much too old to be so easily bowled over by flowery language and carefully curated words. Which way is the craft?" She tapped a well polished and worn walking stick twice on the ground before her. "I would not be adverse if, speed being a consideration, you swooped me into your big arms and carried me." She chuckled as Rogers scowled once more. He looked around for someone to help take this burden from him but it seemed, as if coordinated, everyone was already walking back toward the shuttlecraft and paying them no mind.
