Luck & Disaster - Part 7

Mission: Sole Survivor
Location: Planet's surface
Timeline: MD 18 - 1500

There was a tremendous crash as something burst out of a doorway that was previously covered by the organic material. It ploughed its way through the away team, crushing two of the security officers and standing, bulging and drooling. The team was split up, Yaotome, Tanaka and O'Riley on the sude of the ongoing corridor. Aseek and the others on the other side, with the corridor they had already come down behind them.

"JESUS CHRIST!" Ayumu exclaimed. "EVERYONE GET BACK!"

"Open fire!" Urushi shouted from the floor where the impact had knocked her. She raised her phaser and an orange beam struck the strange 'defiled'. As she fired she quickly tapped her comm badge. "Valkyrie, we're under attack! I repeat, we're under attack!"

O'Riley quickly unholstered his weapon and began to fire trying to concentrate the beam on what appeared to be the head "You ugly bastards" he stated in a low voice while keeping the weapon focused on the 'defiled'.

The defiled seemed unaffected by the phaser fire. It lunged at the officers causing them to scatter. Urushi managed to dive to avoid large claws and snarling teeth. She rolled and came to a stop near the wall. "Switch to Kill! Watch your fire!" She shouted out.

More phaser beams struck the defiled, seemingly now actually hurting it. The defiled started to target the security officers, lunging and swinging at them with sheer brute force.

Crewman Lee gripped his phaser rifle tightly, his hands were shaking and he was finding it difficult to aim. That's when it happened. The defiled lunged at him. In s sheer panic he opened fire, however it bounced off the creature. He let out an ear splitting scream as the Defiled pinned him to the floor.

Phaser bolts were erupting from the end of his rifle as he struggled and screamed.

"STOP FIRING!' Urushi shouted as the phaser fire struck the roof. But it was no use. The sound of the roof cracking and splintering deafened everyone and everything in the corridor. There was one final loud crack before the roof started to collapse. Everything from wooden beams, insulation to rocks and debris came crashing down onto the defiled and crewman James.

And then, there was nothing but silence.


[A few moments later]

Urushi coughed on the dust and the semi-darkness. The only light emanating from her wrist flashlight. She looked around, what had once been corridor and the way back to the surface was now a huge pile of rock and debris. She winced as a sharp pain from her abdomen struck her like lightning.

Looking down she had been partially impaled by some sort of wooden beam. She could see it now pushed into the left of her stomach. It didn't seem to be too deep, but that was not her immediate concern. "The Symbiot..." she winced. She needed medical attention and she needed it fast.

O'Riley sat up coughing hard trying to clear his throat and lungs from all the dust when he noticed Urushi.....she appeared to be hurt. Rushing over to her "Lieutenant how bad is it" as she could see a piece of wood protruding from her abdomen.

Urushi didn't look down, she looked directly at O'Riley. "I have no idea... I'm not looking at it..."

"Erm..." Urushi then said. "How about you wake him up?" She asked pointing to Tanaka. "He's a medical officer... Surely he should be able to... you know... do his... medical... thing... oh god..." she said "You better hurry up... I'm literally going to pass out here..."

Without saying a word O'Riley went over to Tanaka and gently shook him "Doctor wake up! "Lieutenant Yaotome's been injured...she needs your help" he stated in a little louder voice to arouse the Doctor; but he was still out cold.

[Other side of the Collapse]

Aseek had closed his helmet as he dove to the floor and as the chaos settled a hand touched him. Looking up to seeing a familiar blue face. He heard her voice as he stood. "What was that?"

"I don't know...I never seen anything like that. It was like some had fused together into a single mass..."

Wallace had been checking on Lambert, hearing the conversation. "That can't be a planet's worth of life...that wouldn't even have been the Delfiled we saw on that message. Where's the rest?"

The silence was his answer.

Shaking his head nervously, "That's what I was afraid of. Lieutenant Yaotome, O'Riley?? Anyone read that?"

Hearing Wallace "O'Riley here. Not really. The ceiling, or the wall, has collapsed and has blocked our path out of here. Lieutenant Yaotome is injured" then he glanced over to his right "Looks like Dr. Tanaka is unconscious at the moment.

"Understood, Stand by" Wallace could see the Captain's Yeoman scanning the the material, but she looked back shaking here head.

"We can't cut through to get you to you with another collapse." Turning to the one that brought them here. "Is there another way?"

"Only from the outside, but can't your teleporting device pull them out?"

It was obvious he blamed Aseek for the situation, and Sizia cut Wallace off before he could comment, even as Stevie scanned and rescanned for any way to help them. "Lieutenant, We are currently out of contact with the ship. The closer you get to the cliff face you should be able to contact the ship. We will have to go back up and try to get to you. Lt Tanaka should have his med kit, scan him. If there are no apparent injuries give him a stimulant. With any luck you
'll be back on the ship before the rest of us."

She knew she had overstepped and could feel Wallace glaring at her.

Wallace huffed through his nose, his lips tight, figuring his...reaction had gone out over the comm. "O'Riley did you get that?"

"Understood; I'll get right on it" O'Riley replied. Grabbing the Med Kit Liam grabbed a trip-corder then scanned Tanaka "Well no broken bones or internal bleeding so that's a plus" he whispered. Rummaging through the bag he found a stimulant then looked at Tanaka "Sorry Doc but I'm way out of my comfort zone here" he stated just before injecting the Doctor with a hypo containing a stimulant. Moments later Liam saw Tanaka's eyes open "Good your conscious; we have a problem that's in your wheelhouse.

"Ah, what the hell..." Ayumu groaned as he tried to sit up.

"The Lieutenant is badly injured and she's carrying a symbiont inside herself" Liam informed the Doctor.

Ayumu reached up and clutched his helmet, evidently still coming to his senses.

"I feel like I got hit by a freight train..." he grunted weakly as he attempted to regain his bearings. "You... you said someone was injured... who's injured again?"

Looking at Tanaka Liam knew the Doc had to get his head cleared like now "Doctor, Lieutenant Yaotome is badly injured and she's carrying a symbiont" he sated rather forcefully "Get your shit together man!! She needs your help."

"R-right, Ayumu mumbled as he shifted his weight and crawled over to where Urushi was situated. "Okay, let's have a look, see what we've got...

The three of them fell silent as he leaned forward and inspected the wound.

"It's not looking good," Ayumu muttered grimly. "The beam appears to have gone right through the EV suit and entered the Symbiotic Cavity. We'd be lucky if this thing hasn't skewered the symbiont like a kebab."

Urushi just blinked a few times. "Oh crap... starting to go... dizzy..."

"Easy, there, Lieutenant," Ayumu replied, lightly adjusting Urushi so that she was laying supine. "Mister O'Riley, see if you can get me something to prop her legs up; if we elevate them to just above heart level, the blood should flow back into her torso."

"Sure thing Doctor" Liam replied then walked a little further to the right looking for something they could use. Seeing something he shined his light on it,,,,,and there it was.....a small piece of broken four-by-four; no doubt something that had once been in the ceiling. Walking back over "Here I think this should work" as he handed the piece of wood over.

Ayumu looked up at Liam. "Do we know if she came into direct contact with the Defiled, Lieutenant?"

"Other than being knocked down by that creature I don't believe so but everything happened so fast I can't say with certainty" O'Riley replied curious as to the inquiry,
