Mission: What was Lost is Found
Location: Ready Room / Conference Rm

Earlier....

[Shuttle bay]

With Jerome taking the councilors on their tour, that left him to assist Darius with the diplomatic wrangling and he could be Sizia on the luncheon that they had been committed to. Looking to Darius, "Let's go."

Darius nodded. He had always been good with people. That's why hid chose the career he'd gone into. It's what made him who he was and probably why he'd been chosen to do what he'd been tasked to do."

"I'm right behind you."

As the lift took them to the Bridge Daegan tapping his commbadge. "Baas to Sh'velihr"

[Science Lab 4)

Sizia was in the lab continuing her studies towards her degree when the call came in, pulling away from the material. Tapping her badge. "Captain are you back?"

=^= I am. We have a delegation from the survivor's colony and need a luncheon set up. I'm sure the elder Romulans would appreciate some Romulan dishes so have a variety of foods prepared. Oh and make sure there is a some cheesecake. =^=

"Cheesecake?"

Daegan shook his head as he recalled the discussion in the shuttle bay. =^= Yes, it was requested. =^=

"Ok, I will get it all set up. In the observation lounge?"

=^= No, use the Valhalla Lounge. It will give us more room and allow greater interaction. Commander Hunt is giving them a tour, so let him know where the luncheon will be so he doesn't drop in while you are setting up." =^=

"Yes, sir. I'll get right on it."

=^= Excellent. Baas out. =^=

Looking to Darius. "With us out as far as we are we can't speak directly with Starfleet Command or the Romulan Ambassador to the Federation. Star base 152 is the closest facility...we will just have to work through them and they can pass things along. Once we get to the bridge use the conference room and contact Admiral Pullard and let her know what we found while I deal wit the Romulan Ambassador."

'I think I'd rather deal with a Romulan than deal with a bureaucrat,' Darius thought but didn't voice. "With pleasure," he replied with a smile that almost, but not quite, reached his eyes.

"I will get things set up. You can count on me."

[Bridge]

Upon reaching the bridge Daegan looked as Hobbes stood and he waved him down as he headed straight to he ready room. "Bridge is still yours."

Hobbes grinned and lowered himself back into the Captains seat.

Urushi looked back briefly to spot the captain disappear into the ready room. She raised a curious eyebrow before turning back to the science console. She was still analyzing the atmosphere and the planet as a whole, so for now she has 'out of the way' so to speak.

[Ready Room]

"Computer. Open a channel to the Romulan Ambassador on star base 152"

"Working..."

Daegan waited as the channel was established, replicating himself a glass of water.

A few moments later, an older-looking Romulan appeared on the screen. "This is highly irregular, Captain." He said in a somewhat grumpy tone.

"My apologies, Ambassador; however, I felt the importance of recent events dictated a more direct approach rather than taking through regular channels. However, one of my officers is speaking with Admiral Pullard as we speak."

The ambassador sighed. He had practice keeping his expression unreadable. He needed all of that practice at that moment to not show his annoyance. "What is it, Captain?"

"We have found a Romulan D7...the Sahriv. As well as the USS Ulysses. From the information we recovered, it seems the Sahriv was using...testing a plasma weapon. Similar to the one reported by Capt. Kirk on Stardate 1709.4"

"I assume since we are talking, that there were survivors. Please, Captain, tell me more. I need details. Specifics."

Deagan took a sip of his water. "Well... The survivors of both ships had to work together to survive and now live peacefully together in a settlement. It's quite remarkable. I do not yet have a list of survivors or their descendants yet. Currently, my crew is doing a survey of any possible needs, and my first officer is giving the settlements' leadership a tour as we speak. I plan to have a meeting with them later today to get the answers to several questions, but even without those answers, I wanted to let your government know that one of their ships, even if lost so long ago, had been found. I will notify you once I have a complete list of survivors and see that you get a copy of my report."

Meanwhile...

[Conference Room]

Darius had committed, to himself, if no one else that he would keep an open mind. That would use his wit and charm if need be to accomplish the task, his mission and convince Starfleet that they needed to provide support and aid. To see what these colonistsas a model without turning them into test subjects or trying to over analyze things.

He paced back and forth, old habits die hard, as he waited for them to make an appearance.

[SB 152]

Admiral Pullard was reviewing his speech; the Marines on the station were having their Birthday Ball in a few days and he would be expected to say a few words. His aide stepped in, breaking his train of thought.

"Sorry for the interruption, sir, but there is a call coming in from the USS Valkyrie."

"Well, put them through; hopefully they don't need another first officer."

Chuckling at the Admiral's jab, "Yes, sir."

Pullard set his pad aside as his monitor came to life. He had expected to see Baas and his silver and black hair but instead he was seeing a fresh-faced lieutenant... which caused serious concern.

"Lieutenant?"

Darius tugged down the hem of his uniform jacket. He wasn't nervous. Not in the least, or at least he hoped his face conveyed. Even though he was indeed dealing with that emotion.

He cleared his throat, then said, "Lt Darius Korveth, Admiral. I am the Chief Strategic Operations Officer aboard the Valkyrie. We have made a discovery. This might take a while to explain."

Leaning back in his chair, he raised a brow. "Really... I would have expected to hear from Capt. Baas with any problems. Is there a condensed version?"

Darius nodded. Giving succinct reports was something he did with regularity. "Yes, sir. We discovered an old Federation ship, the USS Ulysses. Or what was left of it. We also discovered a Romulan vessel. They were both near a Class M planet. Upon further investigation, we found survivors and their descendants living on that planet. Co-existing."

"More than co-existing, working together closely."

As the Lieutenant continued, Pullard grabbed a padd to refresh his memory. When he scanned the official as well as the unofficial report on the Ulysses, he looked back to the monitor. "The Ulysses was 'officially' declared missing, but there was enough debris from both the Ulysses and an unknown Romulan vessel. However, there was no indication of where either ship had gone. Nothing...both ships simply vanished.

"Now you are telling me that both ships have been found. On the edge of uncharted space, basically on the far side of Romulan space. That people that had tried to blow each other up are now working together?"

He ran a hand through his hair, "Some of their offspring were bi-racial. Hybrid children."

Pullard grinned as he shook his head, "Well, I'd say that's just a little more than working together. Where is Captain Baas?"

Darius grinned at the Admiral's remark about more than working together, then his face shifted back to its normal impassivity.

"He is having a similar conversation with the Romulan ambassador, if I'm not mistaken. However, I don't know if the ambassador is as excited as you are, sir."

"My apologies, he is not here to inform you himself. How should we proceed? What are your orders? Your suggestions?

"The Romulan Ambassador?" The Admiral thought on that for a moment, being up front and transparent should be looked on favorably by the Romulans, and took breaking the news off of his plate. "...No matter. It goes without saying that we will need a list of survivors from the Ulysses. See to any immediate needs, and I will have a starship dispatched to the area to pick up where the Valkyrie leaves off. The report on this 'Defiled' has left a lot of people very concerned. Starfleet Medical wants a sample for study, but if it's as virulent as initially reported...eradication may be the safest route."

"Understood, Admiral. We are already attending to the immediate needs, and they do have some. But, surprisingly, fewer than you might expect. They have been amazingly resourceful."

"We will continue to do so. Do you have an ETA yet on our replacement?"

"As far as the Defiled, that's above my pay grade, but I will pass that information on."

"Anything else sir?"

Shaking his head slightly, "No. For now, keep me apprised and get me that list. No ETA as yet. The Romulan Embassy here may want to send a team, so they may have to fend for themselves for a time. I want the Valkyrie back to the search as soon as possible. Keep the pleasantries to a minimum and get back on the road as soon as possible."

"Aye, sir. We will keep you apprised, and I'll pass your order to the Captain."

"Good night, sir."
