The mess with Rogers settled the Valkyrie was down a Security Chief as well as a handful of security personnel, l=that was already under staffed from their earlier losses; and they couldn't sit here and wait for replacements either. He hated to do it but he hailed the Harper to see what Captain Zumara could do for him.
After a short conversation, and reading her in on their other mission she leaned back... == Well that does change things doesn't it. Sound like you need the troops mor than I. Besides the folks below are really cracking down on things so I don't see an issue sending you some of our people. Besides, if we need anything Star Base 157 can send it, plus there is another 2 starships on standby. Send me a list of what you need. ==
Daegan had had Sizia and Jerome put together a list not only of what was of immediate need but what could be needed as well. By the evening, true to her word, transfer orders were cut and they were beaming people over.
Walking into the transporter room Daegan and Jerome were waiting for their new security chief to be beamed over.
It was one of those rare times when a transfer came in, then, half way to the new posting, it had been cancelled. And that was how Maggie found herself on the Harper. She was basically a passenger with little to do but exercise and read. And wait. Until the captain called her with an immediate transfer order. She had just enough time to pack and change into her uniform before she was standing on the transporter pad.
She was doubly grateful she had when she materialized and saw the two officers waiting for her. Captain and commander. It took her only a moment to snap to attention. "Lieutenant Commander Magdalena Doyl reporting for duty, sirs."
"At ease Commander, at ease." Stepping forward extending his hand. "Captain Daegan Baas." Gesturing to Jerome, "My First Officer, Commander Jerome Hunt. Unfortunately, we have little time to get you settled in and briefed before we before we depart. Given the sudden change of gear for you and the other personnel transfers I thought we could save time by coming to you. Show you to the Security Center, get you brought up to speed on things, etc.."
"Thank you," she replied, shaking each of their hands. "Yes, I would like that." She'd been assured that her personal belongings would be sent to her quarters by the quartermaster, Maggie was eager to get up to speed.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Commander and welcome aboard," Hunt spoke up.
Introductions finished Baas gestured to the door. "Shall we?"
"Aye, sir." It wasn't the first time she'd jumped feet-first into a new situation. At least this time, she wasn't going to do it blind. With a nod of her head, she headed for the door.
As they made their way to Security Baas covered the various tactical, defensive, and extensive holographic systems the Valkyrie was equipped with, to include Hobbes fighter project, but waited to bring up the Defiled until later. "I'm sure you made time to at least look over the Valkyrie systems but given the short fused transfer I didn't want you to go into things completely cold."
"I'm sure I'll have plenty of catching up to do, so anything you can tell me is greatly appreciated." The more she knew before diving in, the better.
Eventually they arrived at the entrance to the Security Center. "Here we ar..."
As the door opened Sizia was leaving with her typical smile. "Captain, Commander Hunt, Commander Doyl. I just dropped off the new security personnel with Lieutenant Taggart." Looking to Doyl, "Commander Doyl, your quarters are ready and your things are there waiting for you."
Maggie smiled. "Wonderful. Thank you."
With her usual effervescent self she smiled, "My pleasure. If there is anything you need just let me know." Looking to Baas, "Captain."
Leading the way into the Security Center he nodded to the officer and the reception station and took everyone into the central hub, move to the opposite side of the holo-table. "I will let you check out everything on your own, but I wanted to read you in on the Valkyries other mission."
That sounded...interesting. Maggie simply nodded.
Over the next 20 minutes Daegan filled her in on the Defiled. Finding Aseek's ship, his explanation for the situation on his planet, their disbelief, what they found on the Pricari home world, the videos they recovered on the surface and on the orbital station, the losses, and what had happened to Lt. Wells. When he finished and deactivated the holo of what had been Lt. Wells. "Given the virulent nature of this contagion it's very existence has been classified as has our mission to find where it came from and how big an area has been contaminated."
Looking over to the new Chief of Security. Jerome could see the information that was delivered was a lot to take in. Especially considering that the Defiled was deemed highly classified and most had no clue of his existence. Or the very danger it posed. "I know that all this information is a lot to take in. Especially when you haven't even had the chance to unpack and settle in yet."
"We don't always have the convenience of settling in, sir. Sometimes, we just jump in feet first and hope for the best. Besides, this isn't something you discuss over afternoon tea." She smiled wryly. "Although it's going to take me a bit to process everything you just shared. I'll get there, but I'm going to go over the information a few times first."
"Understandable. I will let you fill in the rest of the new security staff, once you get your head around everything. If there are any questions don't hesitate to bring it to either of us. Anyway, everything you need is in the computer. Oh, but so you can access it... Computer, Senior Officer appointment. Lieutenant Commander...," glancing at his padd to make sure he do it right, "...Magdalena Doyl is hear by designated Chief Security Officer aboard the USS Valkyrie. Authorization Baas, Gamma-91735-Echo."
When he was done, Maggie smiled. "Thank you, sir. That should be all I need for now." Still, it was a lot to take in. But with the computer access, she should be able to get any additional information she might need.
"Well then we will leave you to it. Welcome aboard." Nodding to Jerome the pair left their new Security Chief to get settled in.
Once back in the corridor, "First impressions?"
"Seems very eager to get started," the Commander acknowledged. "Took the Defiled well, but I can see concern which is obviously expected. Appears to be everything that I saw in her record."
Daegan nodded. "True. Well once we get underway we'll be stuck with her, but my gut tells me we Captain Zumara did right by us." With a quick shrug, "Couldn't be any worse that what just got shipped out."
