[Bridge]

Baas stepped out of his ready room, Sizia right behind him, looking at Jerome.

"Well Exec, are we ready to get back to it?"

Looking over as the two of them stepped onto the bridge, Hunt simply smiled. "Ready whenever you give the word, Sir."

Crossing the bridge his hand came down on Hobbes' shoulder as he passed. "Well before we head out let's see if Captain Zumara needs anything before we leave. Lt. Mallory, hail the Harper."

"Hailing the Harper." Jason repeated the order back as his fingers tapped away to establish the comm-channel link. "Channel open, we have the Harper for you Captain."

As the channel opened, the Captain of the USS Harper, her blonde hair up in a bun, smiled. == Captain Baas, ready to leave us? ==

Returning her smile. "Oh yes, but before we get back to our explorations, I wanted to see if there is anything we could do for you or your crew before we depart."

== Thank you, Captain, but things are running smoothly both here and on the surface. A handful of those involved in the earlier incident have requested to be returned to Romulus, but the new leadership is preparing to hold a trial for those involved, and well,== she shrugged, == we will see how things unfold. As for the rest, they are adapting well to the late 23rd-century technology of their elders and are actually still preferring to keep many of their non-technological options.==

"Well, seems like you have everything well in hand."

== Smooth sailing, Captain Baas. ==

"And you, Captain. Baas out."

As the channel closed, Baas lowered himself into his seat. With a tap on his chair, he opened a channel throughout the ship. "All Hands, this is your Captain. With our business concluded with the survivors from the USS Ulysses and the Romulan Warbird Sahriv. It's time for us to return to our primary mission. In addition to exploring the unknown around us, you all know our orders include the tracking down of the Defiled. We know the Defiled to be an extremely dangerous lifeform. But as it's been said before, 'Risk is our business'.

"As we push further into the unknown, we have and will continue to find things that will challenge our understanding and test our limits. What we find may be frightening, we might experience setbacks....But one thing is for sure...we will not give in to fear. Prepare for departure."

From her position at the security station, Commander Doyl listened to the captain's speech as she watched the viewscreen. She'd only just arrived and she was looking forward to this new venture. From everything she heard so far, it promised to be interesting.

...Meanwhile

[Cetacean Ops]

Konnibet swam between her various stations as she monitored the ship QSD, not that they'd immediately be jumping to slipstream. Regardless, she signaled the new Chief of Engineering that everything was good from her end of things.

Edruj saw the message from Ensign Konnibet. "Thank you Ensign. I will advise should we be activating the QSD." She then made sure that the proverbial hatches were battened. The Valkyrie was ready as it ever would be.

[Patrolling on Deck 13]

Garath listened to the Captain's address, looking to Lambert, who had recently taken action to address his own fears. He didn't say anything but gave him a bump on his shoulder as they walked.

Lambert gave Garath a grin. "Once more into the breach my friend, side by side, or back to back, facing down an enemy. And our Captain certainly knows how to give an inspirational speech."

Garath nodded, "Don't be too anxious a holodeck simulation is no substitute for the real thing."

"I do realize that, but it certainly did help." Lamber replied with a chuckle. "It certainly did help."

Willow paused as she listened to the captain and smiled. Yes. It was good to get back into space. She gave a happy little wiggle and went back to fixing the replicator.

[Exo-Biology]

Sizia was with Lt. V'Laros in the Exo-Biology area of the Valkyries science department as a part of her training. Looking up from her console at the Captains announcement she commented to no one really as the channel closed. "Nice speech."

Looking to his student. "It is customary for a commanding officer to try and inspire his or her crew. Considering the virulent nature of what we are searching for it only to logical to do so. However a 'nice speech' is no excuse to get distracted from your exam."

Sizia wrinkled her nose, smiling "Yes sir."

[Guest Quarters]

Aseek had had little to do since the discovery of the derelict ship and the survivors. He had regularly checked on the embryo pods the medical staff were safeguarding for him. Other than that, he spent his time enjoying the ship's amenities and learning what he could. He soon discovered that his access to technological information had been restricted, but he had full access to their cultural information.

Laying the book he had been reading in is lap as the Captain spoke, he knew what was eventually going to happen. Sooner or later, this crew was going to find more of the Defiled. His head lifted at his last words, closing the book as he thought, ~What an amazing people...Purposefully looking for the Defiled even knowing the danger.~

Ryan Kellerman looked up from the Intelligence console after reading the final line of the decrypted report for a second time. Satisfied, he closed the file with a touch of his finger.

"Captain," he called out to Baas. "I have the information you requested."

"Excellent. Send it to me and we can review it once we are underway."

"Yes, sir."

Ryan's attention returned to his station as began to filter through comm traffic of the sector's nearby outposts.

Darius looked over at Ryan from his station across the bridge, then his eyes scanned the bridge before letting his eyes drift back to the display on the screen in front of him.

"We're all green," he said, "across the board. Everything is at one hundred percent."

Baas grinned giving him a nod. Turning he looked up to the new Security Chief manning her station as if she'd always been there. She'd had less than a day to get settled but the scuttlebutt was there was a whole new vibe in Security. "All ready to go Commander?"

"Yes, sir. Security is at the ready." Maggie had settled in fairly smoothly--except for needing the help of a green-haired operations officer to help her get into her office for the first time. Something about the command codes needing to be reset. But now she was ready and eager to see what lie ahead.

"Excellent."

Hobbes turned to the Captain as he finished. "Course, sir?"

"Put us back on our exploratory course. Mr. Hobbes."

"Roger that, sir." Turning back, he plotted a course out of the system to them back on track.

While he waited, Daegan glanced to the back of Mallory as he sat at Ops. "Mr. Mallory. Once we are clear of the system, make sure to reestablish connection to the probes we launched after leaving the Pricari system."

"Re-establish boring listening connection. Roger. I'll let you know once they are back in sync. We'll probably have a mess of data to download and sift through, just a warning Captain, everyone." Jason's tone was light, more upbeat than normal, but after the experience of the last mission, sometimes a change was needed.

Urushi leant forward, resting her wrists on the smooth surface of the science console. She was glad to finally be back to exploring. It would make a big change to recent events. She looked over briefly at Bass. 'Oh, to be that young again,' she thought to herself, even if the Captain had a good twenty-five physical years on her. "Science is ready to go, Captain. All sensors are operational, and I'm eager to try them out." She reported.

He couldn't agree more. "Well then, let's get to it. Helm, take us out of orbit. Once clear take us to warp 8."

Hobbes had everything ready waiting for the command. "Breaking orbit, aye sir."

[USS Harper ]

Those in the main lounge on deck 10 watched as the Vesta class ship pulled away from the planet. Pulling ahead of the Galaxy class ship the Valkyrie's sleek shape a vast difference to the Harper with it's bulky saucer section.

They watched as the Valkyrie's impulse engines disengaged, before it leapt away as it jumped to warp.

"Awww I was hoping to see a slipstream."
